Marcel Schwarb - Euroscapes In Pastel
Marcel Schwarb

Only man can project from a physical experience into the abstract.
~ David Cavagnaro

About the Artist

In 2004 Marcel was inspired from reading books about Wolf Kahn, Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud and Albert Handell. He began attending pastel classes and workshops in the local area. The pastel medium seemed a natural progression of his work; taking a marking stick in hand to form an impression, but with bold and vivid color. Marcel now paints mostly in oils amd acrylics. His approach reflects his architectural experience and appreciation for the fundamentals of drawing, composition and the overall thought process involved in conveying an initial idea.

Marcel's work is representational with an impressionistic bent; he likes to experiment with all aspects of the subject matter, but is primarily guided by his passion for the beauty of man made structure and nature in harmony with eachother. Many journeys abroad, particularly those to France and Italy, have inspired his painted images.

Artist Statement

I love the dramatic contrast of light against landscapes and man-made structures, especially during early morning or late afternoon sun. My images originate from my foreign travels as well as the magnificent landscapes of the Pacific Northwest.

As a career architect, I am accustomed to conveying my ideas with quick pencil and felttip sketches. I like to experiment with all types of subject matter. My paintings originate from plein-air sketches or photo references, however, I always give special attention to creating a different and unique point of view.

I paint to share my memories, feelings and capture the beauty of the moment and place.
